Question
A student warms oil in a test-tube and uses a liquid-in-glass thermometer to find its temperature. The thermometer has a linear stem scale running from -10 degrees Celsius at the bottom to 110 degrees Celsius at the top. Numbers are printed every 10 degrees Celsius and there are ten equal small divisions between one printed number and the next, so one small division is worth 1 degree Celsius. The top of the liquid thread stands exactly level with the fifth small division above the printed 60 mark. The student is starting a results table that has a single column for this quantity, and no entry has been made in it yet.
