Question
A student used the apparatus in the diagram to find out how the humidity of the air affects the rate of transpiration of a leafy shoot. As the shoot takes up water, the air bubble in the capillary tube moves towards it. The shoot was placed in a sealed chamber and the humidity was changed. The distance moved by the bubble in 300 seconds was measured each time.

Table 1.1
| relative humidity / % | distance moved by the bubble in 300 s / mm | rate of transpiration / mm s⁻¹ |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | 126 | ____ |
| 40 | 108 | 0.36 |
| 60 | 72 | 0.24 |
